Communications interns work closely with website and social media staff to raise awareness of the Center’s work, promote news and stories from the field, and conduct research to support department initiatives.
Overview
The Carter Center, founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, is a non-governmental organization committed to advancing peace and health worldwide. Our communications team focuses on amplifying the impact of our initiatives by effectively communicating our mission, programs, and achievements to the global community through external media placements and internal media productions.
We seek a proactive and self-motivated communications intern to support our engagement team in enhancing awareness of the Carter Center's efforts to promote peace and improve health worldwide. The intern will be pivotal in media monitoring, subject matter research, and support of activities to facilitate successful media placements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compile and maintain media contact lists to support outreach efforts.
- Assist in organizing logistics for events, interviews, and other media engagements.
- Track news coverage and media mentions using Excel spreadsheets for analysis and reporting.
- Conduct programmatic and general research using diverse sources to support communication strategies.
- Create basic graphics for social media using Canva and other tools.
- Monitor social media and news outlets to compile weekly clips highlighting relevant coverage.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Majors: Pursuing or recently completed a degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. A certificate or specialization relevant to human rights or public health is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management and analysis.
- Excellent research skills with the ability to gather and synthesize information from various sources.
- Basic graphic design skills and familiarity with tools like Canva.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and experience in social media monitoring preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for international affairs, peacebuilding, and humanitarian work.
