Barbara Smith oversees the Carter Center’s democracy, human rights, conflict resolution, and rule of law programs, which operate projects and observe elections in countries across the globe. Dr. Kashef Ijaz became vice president for health programs at The Carter Center on Oct. 1, 2020. In this role, he provides leadership for programs and initiatives working to prevent or eliminate six tropical diseases in 18 nations, as well as efforts to improve mental health care in the United States and abroad. Craig Withers manages Overseas Operations serving 30 programs in 17 countries in Asia, Latin America, and Africa as well as election observation missions.
