Agriculture Program (1986–2011)

Between 1986 - 2011, The Carter Center's Agriculture Program - in partnership with national ministries of agriculture and the Sasakawa Africa Association - worked in 15 sub-Saharan African countries.

The program aimed to establish better crop production, train workers, and create production demonstration plots. Activities also expanded to include projects such as grain storage, crop processing, seed production, and the establishment of farmers' associations and saving and loan services.

As a result of this programming, more than 8 million small-scale farmers have doubled or tripled crop yields in countries where malnutrition is a constant threat.
