ATLANTA — The 2022 Carter Center Weekend raised $4,418,851 in donations and auction sales to support the Center’s work to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope worldwide. Events for the annual fundraiser, held June 15-19 in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, included live, silent, and online auctions, as well as a town hall with Carter Center senior leadership, presentations by Center staff, and a variety of social events.
There were 191 items in this year’s auctions, including signed photographs, artwork, and presidential memorabilia. The biggest-ticket item from the live auction was an original painting titled "Great Egret" by former President Jimmy Carter, which sold for $2.1 million. The highest bid from the silent auction was $25,000 for a guitar signed by American rock band Journey.
"I was so happy to go in person and meet our loyal supporters, and we are very grateful for every donation raised during Carter Center Weekend," said CEO Paige Alexander. "These funds help us improve the lives of millions of people around the world by resolving conflicts, promoting peace, and preventing diseases."
Other items that drew top bids included:
-Guitar autographed by John Mayer and the Grateful Dead, $150,000
-Rare Peter Force print of the Declaration of Independence, $110,000
-Oyster fly fishing rod collection signed by President Carter, $110,000
-Luxurious Hawaii vacation, $75,000
-"Human Too" painting by Jerome Lawrence, $70,000
-Handmade Carter Center logo quilt, $65,000
-Photograph of five former presidents and six former first ladies, $50,000
-Collection of Guinea worm artifacts, $50,000
